"The others" Review
"The others" is the first english movie by Alejandro Amenabar, it is a traditional horror movie. Grace, pleyed by Nicole Kidman, single-handedly struggles with a very rare sickness of both of her children, they are light allergic. The whole three must spend almost all they life in darkness, they only use small lampy naftowe becouse they do not use electricity. One day Grace finds out there is someone else in the house... In the great mansion on the Jersey Island strange things start to happen. The servants disappear one night without even taking their money.
The spanish director has been awarded on many international awards. He did a great job directing the movie, he once again proves that being scared out of our wits is a thing we love. The movie is a return to the good old horror, there is no terrible monster killing everybody around, we just have a unnamed, but certainly present, threat. The atmosphere is so well built up by the pólmrok in the house and thrilling music you often find yourself sitting on the edge of the seat waiting what will happen next. And when the movie is suppose to scare you, I am there will not be a person that was not jumping up or screaming.
The movie also ows a lot to the magnificent performance by Nicole Kidman, who in the begining did not want to star in it when she read the script. She perfectly plays the role of mother trying to deal with her children's sickness and waiting for the husband to return from war. She is a women on the verge of madness and everyone can see it very well. The other members of the cast also did a great job, especially the kids, but they stay in the shadow Nicole's performance.
My only pretence to the picture are the seldom moments when nothing happens. There are only two or three of them, but even they cannot spoil a great movie like "The others". If you like good movies and very suprising endings you just must see this one.
